Middle West Spirits has launched the Old Elk Distillery 10-Year-Old Collection, a three-SKU lineup of aged American whiskey entering nationwide distribution at a $69.99 SRP. The release — comprising a Straight Bourbon, a Straight Wheat Whiskey, and a Wheated Bourbon — is the first major portfolio move since the Columbus, Ohio-based independent distillery acquired Old Elk in May 2025, and it signals how Middle West intends to leverage that deal across the premium whiskey shelf.
The timing is commercially deliberate. A 10-year age statement at a sub-$70 price point targets the sweet spot between accessible everyday premium and the $100-plus allocated tier where supply is tight and retailer planogram space is contested. Age-stated American whiskey has been a consistent driver of off-premise velocity, and distributors carrying the portfolio gain a credible conversation starter with both on-premise accounts looking for back-bar differentiation and off-premise buyers building age-statement sets.
The Liquid
Each expression is built around Middle West Spirits' grain-forward production philosophy. The 10-Year-Old Straight Bourbon carries a high-malted-barley mash bill — 51% corn, 34% malted barley, 15% rye — and is bottled at 52.5% ABV. The 10-Year-Old Straight Wheat Whiskey uses a 96% soft red winter wheat mash bill with 4% malted barley, bottled at 51.5% ABV. The 10-Year-Old Wheated Bourbon runs 51% corn, 46% wheat, and 3% malted barley at 52.5% ABV. All three spent a full decade in barrel, a maturation window that gives wholesalers a clear quality narrative when presenting the line to buyers.
Luis Gonzalez, Chief Commercial Officer of Middle West Spirits, framed the collection's market position around the rarity of pairing a legitimate age statement with broad accessibility. "We can offer a line of whiskies with exceptional quality while maintaining accessibility, something truly rare in the industry," Gonzalez said. That positioning is notable from a route-to-market perspective: many 10-year American whiskeys carry allocated status and irregular depletion patterns, making them difficult for distributor reps to sell consistently. A nationally available, single-SRP three-SKU lineup simplifies the wholesale pitch.
Distribution & Route to Market
The collection is available through standard three-tier distribution channels nationwide, with additional DTC access via the Old Elk online bottle shop and direct off-premise sales at Middle West Spirits' Courtland Avenue distillery bottle store in Columbus. That dual-channel approach — wholesale distribution for scale, DTC and destination retail for margin and brand experience — is consistent with how larger independent craft distillers are building brand equity in the current market.
For Middle West, which describes itself as one of North America's largest independently owned distilleries, the Old Elk acquisition added a Fort Collins, Colorado-originated brand with existing national wholesaler relationships. The 10-Year-Old Collection is the first major test of whether those combined distribution networks can drive meaningful depletion velocity at the premium price point. Distributors in key whiskey markets — particularly the South, Midwest, and Texas — will be watching sell-through closely in the first 90 days to gauge reorder cadence and whether the age statement justifies frontline placement or ends up in a specialty or allocated section.
