Unifying Spirits has closed a Wefunder equity crowdfunding campaign raising $2.238 million from 462 investors, bringing total equity financing for its Boba POPS® brand to approximately $8 million. The Pittsburgh-based company — creator of what it describes as the first and only alcohol-filled popping boba — plans to deploy the fresh capital toward a fivefold increase in domestic manufacturing capacity, accelerated retail distribution, and a forthcoming RTD line.
The Numbers
The brand generated $2.8 million in net revenue in 2025, a 3.6x increase over the prior year, and has secured placement across more than 10,000 points of distribution in 75 national retail chains. Roughly half of the company's cumulative $8 million in equity financing has come from experienced beverage industry investors — a signal that category specialists, not just consumer enthusiasts, are validating the concept. Boba POPS holds patents on its manufacturing process through 2035, giving Unifying Spirits a legally protected window to establish category dominance before potential imitators can enter.
Supply Chain & Route-to-Market
The production buildout centers on Unifying Spirits' existing Pittsburgh facility, where proprietary equipment is being added to achieve the projected 5x capacity lift. Bringing manufacturing in-house at scale — rather than relying on co-pack arrangements — strengthens cold-chain control and reduces per-unit cost, both critical levers as the brand pushes into higher-velocity off-premise accounts and expands its on-premise footprint with bars, restaurants, and entertainment venues. For distributors operating within the three-tier system, the capacity expansion addresses a core concern: whether a novelty-adjacent SKU can achieve reliable replenishment velocity at chain-retail scale. The 10,000-door footprint already in place suggests depletions are tracking, but sustainable sell-through will depend on the brand's ability to execute consistent shipment fill rates as planogram commitments deepen.
The product itself occupies an unusual position in the beverage alcohol supply chain. Boba POPS are alcohol-filled pearls — available in eight SKUs including Blueberry, Strawberry, Lychee, Espresso, and Margarita Style — designed to be added to cocktails, champagne, seltzers, or consumed standalone. That dual-channel utility (off-premise retail and on-premise cocktail enhancement) gives wholesalers a flexible pitch across account types, from grocery and convenience to casual dining and nightlife. What's Next
"The enthusiasm we've seen from both consumers and investors reinforces that people are looking for new experiences in beverage alcohol," said Ray Rozycki, CEO of Unifying Spirits. The company will use the raise to advance product innovation — specifically an RTD beverage extension — which would open an additional route-to-market and potentially qualify for different TTB regulatory classifications depending on base alcohol and ABV. An RTD format would also make the brand eligible for cold-vault placement and loyalty program inclusion at convenience and grocery chains where the existing popping-boba SKU may not naturally shelf. The crowdfunding model itself is worth noting: community-based equity raises are becoming an increasingly common pre-Series A tool for challenger beverage brands, turning engaged consumers into invested advocates who have a financial incentive to drive trial and word-of-mouth depletions at retail.
