New Expression Amplifies Wheated Bourbon's Sweet Profile Barton 1792 Distillery has introduced 1792 Wheated Full Proof, a 125-proof bourbon built on the wheated mashbill that underpins its Sweet Wheat line. The higher proof amplifies the base expression's flavor intensity while maintaining its signature sweetness. "Sweet Wheat has built a passionate following because of its distinctly smooth, rounded flavor profile," said Ross Cornelissen, Master Distiller at Barton 1792 Distillery. "With Wheated Full Proof, we wanted to take what people already love and show them another side of it. The sweetness is still there, but the higher proof brings greater depth and richness. For someone who already loves high-proof bourbon, this expression offers the kind of bold character they're looking for. For someone just beginning to explore higher proofs, Wheated Full Proof is an inviting way to discover what higher proof bourbon can offer."
Flavor Profile and Production Details The new release delivers layers of honeyed caramel and ripe stone fruit on the palate, accented by subtle tropical notes and balanced oak tannins. On the nose, it opens with aromas of soft caramel and dried honey, followed by ripe apricot, vanilla and sweet oak. The finish is described as long and warm, with lingering notes of caramelize sugar, oak and sweetness. 1792 Wheated Full Proof is distilled and aged at Barton 1792 Distillery in Bardstown, Kentucky, the oldest fully operating distillery in the city. The expression is bottled at the whiskey's original entry proof to the barrel.
Awards and Distribution Sweet Wheat, introduced in 2015, has earned multiple accolades: Double Gold at the 2024 San Francisco World Spirits Competition, Gold at the 2025 International Wine & Spirit Competition, and Gold at the 2026 Denver International Spirits Competition. 1792 Wheated Full Proof will roll out beginning November 2026 across California, Texas, New York, Florida and Illinois in 375mL bottles at a suggested retail price of $39.99.
Why It Matters
The release represents a strategic line extension for Sazerac's 1792 portfolio, offering operators and consumers a higher-proof entry point into wheated bourbon—a category gaining traction among consumers seeking smoother, fruit-forward profiles at elevated ABV.
