Spirit of Texas Distillery, the 11th licensed distillery in Texas, has evolved from a single-focus producer into a multi-category craft beverage destination and entertainment venue since its 2009 founding in Pflugerville.
From Spirits to Experience The distillery's initial focus on rum and whiskey production remained its core through 2017.
By 2018, leadership made a significant operational pivot, adding a tasting room, lounge, and outdoor stage to the facility. The venue quickly became a draw for local musicians and community events, transforming the operation beyond beverage production. In 2019, the distillery expanded its portfolio by adding in-house craft beer production, creating what management describes as a full craft experience under one roof.
Pandemic Test and 2025 Recognition Like many small producers, Spirit of Texas faced significant headwinds in 2020 as the pandemic disrupted supply chains and raw material availability. The operation adapted by securing alternative suppliers and distribution partners, allowing it to maintain operations through the downturn. By 2025, the distillery's perseverance yielded a marquee result: an award-winning whiskey that has garnered external recognition and expanded the brand's market presence beyond the Texas region.
Why It Matters
Spirit of Texas exemplifies how small distilleries can diversify revenue streams—beyond spirits into beer and hospitality experiences—to build resilience and community engagement. The multi-category model and entertainment venue integration represent a broader industry trend among craft producers seeking to capture higher margins through on-premise experiences.
