Mission Craft Cocktails is rolling out the Pickle-Rita, a 25% ABV dill-infused ready-to-drink margarita, with fall placement confirmed at Total Wine & More, Costco, and Ralphs — three of Southern California's highest-volume off-premise accounts. The SKU joins a margarita lineup that already spans Classic, Jalapeño Pineapple, Strawberry, Watermelon, and the recently launched Tamarind expressions, deepening the brand's presence in the fast-growing bar-strength RTD segment.
The Sourcing Play
The Pickle-Rita marks Mission's first collaboration with Productos Finos de Agave, a third-generation, family-operated independent distillery now serving as the brand's tequila supply partner. Locking in an independent agave supplier signals a deliberate move to control distillate quality and provenance — a credibility lever that increasingly matters at premium off-premise retail. Mission positions its full portfolio in the 20–40% ABV range, differentiating from the lower-strength, malt-based RTDs that dominate convenience and grocery planograms.
Demand Signal First
Founders Amit Singh and Marcin Malyszko said the product was effectively consumer-validated before a single bottle was produced. "What started as an April Fools' joke quickly became one of the most requested cocktails we've ever dreamed of," the co-founders said. "When we teased a spiked pickle cocktail last April, we expected a few laughs. Instead, people flooded our inboxes asking where they could actually buy it." That organic demand signal — essentially a zero-cost DTC pre-market test — gave the brand a low-risk rationale for committing to production and retail placement negotiations.
Retail Footprint and Market Context
Securing simultaneous launch doors at Total Wine & More, Costco, and Ralphs is a meaningful off-premise trifecta for a regional RTD brand. Total Wine & More's spirits-specialist model supports premium RTD velocity; Costco's club format drives high case-movement on proven SKUs; and Ralphs, as a Kroger banner, opens the door to potential broader chain expansion through the Kroger network. For a Southern California-based supplier still building national wholesaler depth, that combination of specialty, club, and conventional grocery channels provides both volume throughput and brand legitimacy.
The savory-cocktail trend has been building in on-premise velocity for several years — pickle-back shots, dirty martini riffs, and briny margarita specials have all posted strong menu penetration — and RTD producers are increasingly chasing that flavor profile into packaged format. Mission's pivot from consumer tease to retail-ready SKU in roughly one product cycle underscores how shorter development timelines in the co-pack and contract-distilling space are accelerating time-to-shelf for agile RTD brands.
Mission also operates a One Bottle = One Meal program with Feeding America, having funded more than 1,675,924 meals to date with a stated goal of 2,000,000 by year-end 2026. For retail buyers increasingly attentive to purpose-driven brand narratives, that program functions as a shelf-justification data point alongside velocity and margin metrics.
