House of Lords Beverages Limited has launched Le Morne 24-Carat Gold Flakes Mauritius Rum, positioning the spirit as the world's first rum of its kind to incorporate edible gold while tying its narrative to the UNESCO World Heritage Site that inspired it. The rum is the flagship expression from House of Lords, founded in 2016 by Dr. Sukhbir Puri, a chemist with nearly three decades of experience across major beverage companies including Diageo, Jubilant Organosys, and Tilaknagar Industries. Puri established the company in Mauritius to blend scientific expertise with the island's centuries-old rum-making tradition.

Product Profile Le Morne is crafted from Mauritian rum and enriched with edible 24-carat gold flakes.

According to the producer, the expression features aromas of vanilla and oak, with a palate revealing peach, cinnamon, caramel and fruit, finishing with gentle spice. The rum draws on over 300 years of collective blending expertise from House of Lords' production team. The spirit has garnered international recognition, including praise from the International Taste Institute, whose jury described it as "harmonious and intricately flavoured."

Heritage and Impact Le Morne takes its name from a basalt mountain on Mauritius's southwestern coast that holds deep cultural significance for the island as a symbol of freedom and resilience. For every bottle sold, €1 is donated to the Le Morne Heritage Trust Fund to support preservation of the UNESCO World Heritage Site. This approach reflects a broader shift in the premium spirits market toward authenticity and consumer-driven social impact. The donation mechanism creates a direct link between luxury consumption and cultural stewardship.

Why It Matters

As premium spirits increasingly compete on narrative rather than age statements alone, House of Lords is positioning Le Morne within a crowded luxury category by anchoring the product to tangible heritage and measurable charitable contribution. The gold-flake innovation serves as a visual differentiator on shelf, while the donation structure addresses growing consumer demand for purpose-driven luxury.
