Whisky and Racing Meet in Limited-Edition Release Glenfiddich has unveiled the Glenfiddich & Aston Martin Formula One Team 16-Year-Old Limited-Edition Release No. 2, the second collaborative expression between the Scotch whisky producer and the racing team. The partnership, announced in November 2024, pairs two heritage brands around a shared philosophy: that exceptional performance is defined by invisible details working beneath the surface. The whisky is designed by Glenfiddich Malt Master Brian Kinsman and inspired by the work of Aston Martin Formula One Team Managing Technical Partner Adrian Newey. According to Kinsman, "What I find most compelling about Adrian's work is that the defining performance often comes from what you cannot immediately see. Behind every Aston Martin Formula One Team car are hundreds of small decisions, carefully refined to create a seamless whole. The same is true in whisky making. For this expression, I combined the influence of five distinct cask types, each contributing its own character, texture and depth. The art lies not in the individual components, but in bringing them together in a way that feels perfectly balanced and instinctively right."
Five Cask Maturation Creates Layered Profile The 16-year-old is built through maturation across five cask types: first-fill bourbon barrels, Port pipes, Oloroso sherry casks, wine casks, and Fino sherry butts. Bottled at 43% ABV, the whisky is designed to move seamlessly through flavor layers, revealing what Glenfiddich describes as its unmistakable character. Tasting notes include rich stewed fruits with floral notes, hints of marzipan and polished leather on the nose. The palate shows mellow, silky texture with creamy, buttery toffee sweetness, caramelized cane sugar, and dry oak tannin. The finish is characterized by long-lasting oaky sweetness.
Availability and Positioning The limited-edition release is available nationwide with an MSRP of $79.99.
Glenfiddich, owned by family-run William Grant & Sons, is sold in over 180 countries and remains produced at the distillery founded by William Grant in 1887. The brand claims more awards since 2000 than any other single malt Scotch whisky in the International Wine & Spirit Competition and International Spirits Challenge.
Why It Matters
For spirits operators and retailers, this release taps two premium positioning angles—heritage craftsmanship and motorsport sponsorship—at a price point accessible to mid-premium consumers. The collaboration underscores how spirits brands are leveraging sports partnerships for differentiation in a crowded single malt category, while limited editions drive urgency and repeat traffic.
