Dewar's Debuts Cask-Finished Scotch for US Open Golf Tournament

Dewar's has released an official Scotch whisky for the 126th US Open, taking place Father's Day weekend (June 19-21) at Shinnecock Hills Golf Club in New York. The Dewar's 19 Year Old 'The Champion's Edition' is finished in Old Cabernet Franc Red Wine Casks sourced from Hamptons-based Wölffer Estate.

The limited release reflects a broader trend of spirit brands creating tournament-specific expressions tied to local terroir and premium ingredients. The 43% ABV expression is priced at $79.99 and available at dewars.com.

Tasting Profile

According to the brand, the whisky features aromas of violets and blackcurrants, with a palate of golden honey, syrupy red berries, and warm cinnamon from the wine cask finish.

Master Blender Stephanie Macleod, credited with six previous Champion's Edition releases, developed the expression. In a statement, she emphasized that "the 19 year old maturation period reflects the timeless ritual of the post-round toast, crafted for gatherings and lasting celebrations, making it the perfect gift for any whisky enthusiast or golf lover's this Father's Day."

Signature Cocktail Returns

Dewar's 12 Year Old returns as the official US Open cocktail in the form of the 'Lemon Wedge'—a highball-style drink made with fresh lemonade and club soda.

Why It Matters

For operators, tournament-specific spirit releases offer branded merchandising and premium positioning opportunities during high-profile sporting events. Golf venues and hospitality venues hosting Father's Day gatherings can leverage both the limited-edition bottle and signature cocktail as premium revenue drivers tied to seasonal demand.
