Two Formats, One Ingredient

DolCas Biotech is pushing its Curcugen® full-spectrum curcuminoid complex into functional food and beverage applications through two commercial partnerships, marking a deliberate pivot for an ingredient historically confined to encapsulated supplements. The New Jersey-based nutraceutical supplier announced the co-formulations ahead of SupplySide Global 2026, where it will exhibit at Booth #6011 — signaling that ingredient suppliers are increasingly positioning bioavailability-enhanced botanicals as viable functional beverage inputs.

The move reflects a broader industry shift: as on-premise and off-premise retailers expand shelf space for functional wellness beverages, ingredient suppliers are under pressure to demonstrate format versatility and clinical credibility. Curcugen® carries Self-Affirmed GRAS status for specified uses, water dispersibility, and mild flavor — characteristics that meaningfully widen its addressable delivery formats beyond the capsule and tablet SKUs that have traditionally dominated the curcumin category.

The Commercial Partnerships

The first application pairs Curcugen® with New Zealand-based Mānukora® Ltd.'s premium MGO 850+ Mānuka honey in a "Body Recovery & Gut" formulation also featuring concentrated ginger and Sicilian lemon oil. Benjamin Nahar, Head of Product Development and Herbal Science at Mānukora, framed the collaboration in Ayurvedic terms, noting that honey functions as a yogavahi — a traditional delivery medium — making it a natural carrier for enhanced-bioavailability turmeric. For functional food formulators, the partnership illustrates how premium ingredient positioning can add margin justification to high-price-point SKUs in the natural channel.

The second partnership places Curcugen® inside Numin, a cognitive performance beverage developed by Singapore-based SLS Performance Pte., Ltd. Numin targets decision fatigue — a positioning aimed squarely at professional end-users including executives and traders — and is sold as a single-serve orange-flavored powder sachet designed to disperse readily in liquids. Arun Hozack, CEO of Numin, cited Curcugen®'s clinical grounding and formulation flexibility as key to building the finished-product formula around a verifiable mechanism rather than a trendy ingredient stack. Internal evaluations report improved mental clarity with effects observed within approximately 60 minutes and lasting up to six hours, though those findings represent company-reported data rather than published peer review.

Why Bioavailability Changes the Formulation Math

For beverage manufacturers and co-packers evaluating curcumin as a functional ingredient, the supply-chain calculus around Curcugen® centers on dose efficiency. Human pharmacokinetic data cited by DolCas Biotech shows more than 50-fold greater bioavailability of total curcuminoids with Curcugen® compared with a standard curcuminoid extract — a figure that, if borne out in third-party review, has significant implications for inclusion rates, raw material cost per serving, and label claim substantiation. Because the ingredient requires no added bioenhancers such as piperine, formulators working in clean-label beverage segments avoid the complication of additional actives that can affect flavor, regulatory classification, or allergen declarations.

K. G. Rao, founder and CEO of DolCas Biotech, pointed to a widening aperture of possible delivery formats: functional beverage shots, ready-to-drink wellness formats, powder sachets, gummies, and functional confectionery. For distributors and buyers managing the functional beverage shelf, curcumin's expansion into these formats adds a clinically referenced ingredient story to categories that have often relied on vitamin or adaptogen positioning. As the RTD wellness segment continues to attract retailer investment in dedicated cold-chain and ambient wellness sets, ingredient suppliers offering format-agnostic actives with robust safety dossiers will increasingly find a ready audience among contract manufacturers and brand owners alike.

Curcugen® has been clinically investigated across exercise and recovery, gastrointestinal wellness, knee joint health, bioavailability, and safety. DolCas Biotech reports that additional research programs are underway exploring new health categories, potentially broadening the ingredient's commercial footprint further into functional beverage applications as those studies conclude.
