Home Brewery Blends Profession and Daily Life An Austrian brewmaster operating in Beijing has integrated a 100-litre brewery directly into his residential home, merging professional beer development with domestic life in China's capital. Wolfgang, who trained and qualified as a brewmaster in Germany, built the fully functional system two years ago. The brewery serves dual purposes: developing beers for his commercial brand while also producing small batches for family, friends, and neighbors.

Some Brews Reach Market, Others Stay Private The project demonstrates an unusual confluence of traditional brewing craft and contemporary urban living. Several beers developed on the system have entered the commercial market, while others remain exclusively for household consumption. "What started as a personal brewing project has become an unusual combination of my profession and everyday life: a working brewery integrated into a contemporary home in Beijing," Wolfgang said. The setup reflects a broader trend among beverage professionals who are experimenting with home-scale production in urban centers, though full-sized residential breweries remain uncommon in major cities.

Why It Matters

For F&B operators and breweries exploring small-batch production models, Wolfgang's setup illustrates the feasibility of compact brewing systems in space-constrained urban environments—a potential template for craft beverage entrepreneurs in high-density markets worldwide.
